Not always, but most structural or significant alterations do require one. In Ontario, you generally need a permit for additions, new buildings, structural changes, changes to plumbing or HVAC, and finishing basements. Cosmetic work like painting or replacing flooring typically does not. When in doubt, contact us for a free assessment.
